The Gift in the Shadow

We all know that life comes with lessons.
Whenever we hit an obstacle, face a challenge, or find ourselves repeating the same frustrating pattern, we'll often say, "There's a lesson in this for me." The difficult part isn't recognising that a lesson exists.
It's understanding what that lesson actually is!
Imagine how much easier it would be if you could identify the deeper lesson while you were living it, rather than only seeing it in hindsight.
Over the past few months I've been creating an oracle deck called The Gift in the Shadow, a collection of 55 core soul lessons that reveal the deeper purpose hidden within life's challenges.
I'm so excited that it's almost ready to be released and I couldn't really wait before I started sharing it with you.
I've been using these core soul lessons in clinic to assist people in healing foundational issues in record time so I thought I might muscle test one card from the deck for the collective.
Together we'll explore the shadow it reveals, the gift waiting beneath it, and the soul lesson it invites us to learn.
Let me know if this resonates with you? and I hope you enjoy!

Whenever we feel blocked from becoming who we long to be, doing what we know we are here to do, or receiving what our heart desires, we are often encountering one of our shadows.
These shadows are not evidence that something is wrong with us. They are places where we have forgotten our true nature.
Most shadows are born from a wound. Somewhere along the way we came to believe we were not enough, that the world was unsafe, that love had to be earned, or that we were somehow separate from the very source that created us.
These beliefs become the object standing between us and the light.
The gift is not found by fighting the shadow. It is found by bringing awareness to it.
The card that came up to day was;
VULNERABILITY vs. RESCUING
This is one of humanities core lessons and when we illuminate these wounded places it begins to heal the wound that lies underneath. Think about where this may play a role in your own life either in the past or even in your current life.
Awareness is always the first step to healing and as you contemplate the gift that sits beneath the shadow you can lean into the energy of that.
Shadow
Helping others to avoid facing your own needs.
Feeling safer being needed than being known.
Gift
The courage to be seen fully.
Relationships built through mutual care rather than one-sided giving.
The Lesson
Vulnerability is the willingness to reveal yourself as you are. It allows others to witness your strengths, your fears, your needs, and your humanity without hiding behind the roles you’ve learned to play. It’s the foundation of genuine connection because intimacy can only grow where authenticity is allowed.
The rescuer often appears generous, dependable, and endlessly available. Beneath that generosity can live a deeper fear. Being needed feels safer than being seen. Focusing on another person's struggles creates distance from your own, while helping becomes a way of protecting yourself from the vulnerability of receiving support in return.
Relationships cannot remain balanced when one person is always the helper and the other is always being helped. Over time, connection becomes based on usefulness rather than authenticity.
The opportunity to be loved simply for who you are is replaced by the need to remain indispensable.
The lesson is to recognise that your worth is not measured by how much you carry for others. Real connection grows through mutual openness, where giving and receiving are equally valued. The courage to let yourself be seen creates relationships that no longer depend on roles, but on truth.
The deepest connections are formed when you no longer need to earn love by being needed.
Contemplation
Where have I made helping others a substitute for revealing myself?
What part of myself have I been protecting from being seen?
What would it feel like to receive the same care I so freely offer others?
If this lives in your life at the moment use the contemplation questions to journal out some realisations and start the process of healing this wound in your own life.
